SETI

THE END OF A GREAT DEBATE

"If you believe in love and are curious, you will know whether life exists in the Universe."

SUNRISE

Great philosophers and thinkers from antiquity to modern times have wondered whether alien life exists in the universe. The general consensus is that it is hard to imagine a universe with only one life-bearing world we call Earth.

Even today, most scientists are supporting this view through a variety of different technologies to help us observe the universe. Even without actually seeing the aliens themselves, scientists know that there are extraterrestrial planets around other stars at the right distances to permit water to exist in its three phases, as well as the presence of water, amino acids and other chemicals everywhere we look. And these are just the beginning.

Convinced that there has to be something out there, scientists dedicated to the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) have been working hard to find the final piece of evidence to complete the jigsaw puzzle. Not least of which are the people at NASA where the effort has turned to sending probes to certain moons around Saturn in the hope that an alien bacteria may exist. This seems to be the prime interest for scientists at the present time. If that is not enough, in the next decade, NASA intends to build a new and highly sensitive device to send into space designed to analyze the atmospheres of planets around distant stars. Clearly, scientists are increasingly confident of detecting alien life somewhere in the universe. It is all a question of time before we know the answer.

But do we need to wait? Should we only find the evidence through radio telescopes, or sending probes to the moons of Saturn? Or could we answer this great question in another way?

Following the publication of UFOs - Can We Advance Science? Making the Case for a New Electromagnetic Technology, it would appear that there is an answer, and one that might surprise the scientists. There is something in the UFO reports that the scientists have not seen, mainly because it was thought that interstellar travel was an impossibility. Not any more. All we need to do is test the concept behind the electromagnetic technology. Then we will have the answer.

Until the experiment is performed, let us use this opportunity to have a general scientific discussion of how likely aliens might exist in the universe from the available observational evidence, have a quick look at the mathematical solutions suggesting how many alien civilisations are likely exist in the Milky Way as well as how long it might take for an alien civilisation to colonise the galaxy (and hence reach us), and reveal any possible explanations as to why an alien civilisation may choose not to have direct contact with us if there is a possibility they have reached us.

For further insights into this topic, we recommend reading the above publication.
